MERCEDES TARRAZON
Mrs. Mercedes Tarrazón is considered an international authority in the field. She is the founder of DISPUTE MANAGEMENT SLU a Barcelona-based firm specialized in international business advice and dispute resolution services. A practicing lawyer in Spain, Mercedes has a sound knowledge in management and corporate governance due to her background as past co-manager (1985-2000) and general counsel (1988- 2000) of leisure and real estate family businesses. An experienced International Arbitrator and Mediator, Mercedes is the member for Spain at the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She is also Vice-president of the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission, member of the Board of Management of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Consul of Barcelona’s Consolat de Mar (DR Center), member of the Barcelona Court of Arbitration and member of the Board of the Club Español del Arbitraje. Much involved in Spain and Latin American domestic and international private dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation), her experience in the international arena together with her fluency in several languages has brought her to the panels of arbitrators of ICDR, WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre, Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission and several regional and domestic centres. Mercedes has been also ODR Mediator in the RisolviOnline Project of the Camera Arbitrale di Milano. As a lawyer, a significant percentage of her practice involves counseling clients on various matters involving Europe and Latin America. Thoroughly committed to the development and strengthening of ADR, Mercedes is one of the members of the working group that assisted the European Commission’s Directorate General for Justice and Home Affairs in preparing a European Code of Conduct for Mediators. She is also member of the CPR European Advisory Committee and founding member of the Groupement Européen de Magistrats pour la Médiation. As Consul of Barcelona’s Consolat de Mar, in 2000 she provided Spain with the first set of institutional business mediation rules. Since then she has pioneered the business mediation developments in Spain. Mercedes is also a negotiation and mediation trainer and a guest lecturer in private dispute resolution at several institutions. She has participated as judge and mediator in several editions of the ICC Mediation Competition. In her capacity as businesswoman, Mercedes is an elected representative on the Assembly of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and on the General Council of the Barcelona Tourism Consortium. She regularly participates as mentor in the Catalan Government’s programmes for the support of women entrepreneurs and CEOs.
