GIOVANNI DE BERTI
Founding and senior partner of the De Berti Jacchia Franchini Forlani Law Firm until 2012, Giovanni De Berti is now a full time mediator, negotiator and arbitrator, having been an international counsel for more than 40 years in commercial and corporate matters, merger and acquisition, joint ventures, sale of goods, agency, distribution, construction, media and entertainment, product liability, as well as a litigator, arbitrator and mediator in these and other fields. He has been acting as attorney, party appointed arbitrator, sole arbitrator and president of arbitration tribunals in proceedings of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the European Court of Arbitration, the Italian Arbitration Association, the Milan Chamber of Arbitration, the Italian Chamber of Arbitration of Public Works, the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Italy and in ad hoc domestic and international arbitration proceedings. He has been on the arbitrators list of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre, the Italo-Swedish Chamber of Commerce-Assosvezia, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) and an active Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has also been acting as mediator and attorney in institutional and ad hoc mediation proceedings and is an accredited mediator of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), the Italy-China International Business Mediation Centre, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the International Mediation Institute (IMI), the Milan Bar Mediation Institution and is a Fellow (Mediation) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has been authoring books and articles, reporting, lecturing and training on arbitration and ADR at congresses, courses, seminars and workshops. Since 2006 he has been arbitrator and coach at the Vienna and Hong Kong Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and since 2008 mediator, judge, coach and problem drafter at the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris. Giovanni De Berti graduated in law, maxima cum laude, at the Milan State University. After qualifying as a lawyer in Italy, he read English law at the Council of Legal Education in London and was called to the Bar of England and Wales at Gray's Inn. Back to Italy, he was associate and partner of Graziadei, then the leading international law firm in Italy, before the founding of his own Firm. He has been active in professional associations, as President of the Milan Young Lawyers Association, the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats, the Milan Law School Alumni Association and the Milan Bar Commission for International Relations, and has held appointments with the Union Internationale des Avocats, the Italian Bar, the Italian Lawyers' Pension Fund and at Italian National Bar Congresses. Giovanni is accerdited senior trainer for CONCILIA at the Italian Ministry of Justice. He is the first Italian professional mediator to become "IMI Certified Mediator".
